Its come to the time where my old PC is outdated and well, just plain ugly. So time to upgrade. This may take a few weeks since I dont have much time to work on it, so bear with me.
Anyways, heres the new base. A Silverstone Tek SG01-Evolution small form factor case. Small but not too small, and pretty nice looking case I think. Theres no side windows but alot of subtle air vent areas. Feels very solid too, I'm pretty impressed with it. It was a bit pricey compared to what I normally spend on cases, about $122 shipped, but I'm happy with it.
First step, swapping out the hard-drive-cooling 80mm fan for a 92mm one, (25 to 37 cubic feet of air per minute), then relocating the smaller one to the top of the case as a exhaust fan.
Next thing I wanted to accomplish was a little trickier. Replacing the stock front USB+sound jacks with a media card reader. Another Silverstone product, includes USB, Sound, 1394 hookup, every media card that ive every seen, and also a nice hookup that matched my cellphone data cable.
This normally fits in a floppy drive bay, of which the SG01 doesn't have. And I didn't want to use up one of my 5.25" bays with a adapter. So with a little cutting to open up the slot and it fits rather decently. Heres hoping the hard drive I ordered still fits somewhere
Anyways, I'm off for tonight. Let me know what you think so far!
Oops, forgot to update you guys. Work is kicking my ass, anyways...
Got some of the goods yesterday, gotta love UPS.
Now I know why he was running back to his truck. Anyways, here's the lineup...
Asus P5B-VM - Laid out rather well, except the ATA cable jack is all the way on the other side of the board.
Intel E6600 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo - I'll let ya know what I think once I fire it up
Corsair Xtreme 2GB (2x1GB) XMS2-6400 - Not the fanciest looking in the RAM choices but had the best timing rate at the price.
Western Digital 150GB @ 10,000RPM - This came wrapped in a black satin bag Looks great with the black paint too, and it has a plexiglass top so you can see the guts inside. Should be entertaining for a few minutes.
Anyways, I have most of it installed. I'm actually posting from the PC right now. Downloading my graphics drivers, they're 204MB!!!
