my computer keeps restarting mid-game when im playin like ghost recon or the quake wars demo. i have everything on highest settings and it runs smooth, but then just cuts out and restarts. i thought it could be because i didnt have enough memory, but my new memory got in today, and it still is doing that, so thats probably not the problem. motherboard and cpu temps are fine, so i think maybe the video card is heating up too much. any thoughts on what could be the problem or how i can fix it?
does the sound in game kinda pause or stall out and keep playing solid tones until the restart occurs? (usually not very long)
if yes, which mine used to do all the time, it was because my ASUS board's memory slots were screwed up...this could also be caused by vga overheating...
MSI 8800 GTX. it gives no sign of restarting. it is running perfectly, no stalling, tones, lag, anything....just cuts out. i think its from the card overheating. i was looking at the requirements for power and it requires a 450w power supply with 12v rated at 30A...no clue what the 30A means, but i have a 680w with 12v rated 22A. the fan on the card seems like its spinning pretty slow and not moving much air over the heatsinks. i talked to a geek squad guy and he said the card was probably defective. i read a few of the reviews on my card on newegg and a lot of people said their cards got pretty hot, but they didnt mention the comp restarting. and i dont know what a PSU is, puppy lol.
i cant read the temp on my video card, unfortunately, but yeah, you are right pup, i went ahead and dropped $100 for an ultra connect 700w that gives 40amps and its workin fine now...i dont know anything about power supplies, so thats probably a crappy one, but it was the cheapest 700w they had. do you think i would be fine with like a 600w?
Get a good quality one. A bad power supply can fuck up your whole computer. Look at the ratings they may say 600w, but if u read the fine print it will say something like "actual wattage between 400w and 600w". Make sure you get the right amperage as well.
If its working, then you should be fine with the 700w one u bought.
Yeah, amperage is a big deal...never get a PSU because it's cheap, you can have the baddest components available but if they can't get power it's worthless...i am hoping to build a new pc by Christmas and this is the one I want as of right now
